Oxo Good Grips Digital Food Scale with Pull Out Display

More expensive at $49.95, the Oxo Good Grips Digital Food Scale also has a capacity of 11 lb or 5 kg and measures in 1/8 oz and 1 gram increments.

Accurate and consistent, it measures down to 1/8 oz or 1 gram. There might be a slight lag when adding ingredients. If so, add them gradually.

Display options include both ounces and grams. Change between metric and imperial by simply tapping a button instead of switching off and re-setting.

This scale also has the tare feature whereby you zero your plate before adding your food.

Black and stainless steel gives the scale a contemporary look. Sleek and compact, measuring 11.2 x 8.6 x 2.1, it takes up little space and being attractive, it enhances the look of your kitchen. If you put it away, store it flat, not on its side.

This scale weights 5 lbs so while still light, it feels and looks more robust than the Escali Primo.

An optional backlight display, requiring 4 AAA batteries, is useful in dim lighting, when there is a glare or you are on the other side of the room. Simply switch on the attractive blue light to reveal the clear display.

Any size plate or bowl can be put on the flat stainless steel platform because, thanks to the handy pull out feature, you are able to read the display without having to bend down or use an elevator. The display attaches to the base by a small retractable and insulated black cord. When finished, the pull out part fits back easily and snugly.

The remaining capacity also registers in case you wish to add something more.

The biggest disadvantage of this scale is that it registers fractions instead of decimals. So it would display 2 5/8 oz instead of 2.6 oz.

The scale is easy to wipe clean and the platform can be removed without worrying about water splashing on the electronic parts. Nevertheless, handwashing is recommended.

A long-lasting display allows you to continue with other things without the scale switching off. After 3 minutes it goes into sleep mode, but keeps all measurements. Push a button to restore the last reading and after 45 minutes it shuts off automatically.

Using regular sized batteries is a plus and the battery cover is solid.
